Cristiano Ronaldo's last Man Utd squad - where Premier League winners are now

Cristiano Ronaldo has re-signed to Manchester United in one of the biggest transfers of all-time in the Premier League.

Fans have been going bonkers over his return almost 12 years after his initial departure to Real Madrid.

There will be a sense of finishing off business after losing the Champions League final in his last game for the Red Devils.

Barcelona were too good as they brushed aside Sir Alex Ferguson's men through Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi goals in Rome.

But United dominated the Premier League during Fergie's time there and 2009 was no different as they beat Liverpool and Chelsea to the title - so where are they now?

Edwin van der Sar

A bonafide United legend where he played 266 times, winning the Champions League as well as four Premier League titles and the League Cup.

Now he is employed by his boyhood club Ajax as their CEO, a position he has held since 2016 despite speculation he could return to United in a boardroom role.

John O’Shea

One of Fergie’s favourites who could play in a number of positions and did so through three decades, O’Shea remains a cult figure at Old Trafford.

The Irishman can be found now at Reading, where he spent his last season as a footballer before becoming a first-team coach.

Rio Ferdinand

The defender had a long and famous career, first at West Ham, then Leeds United and then the Red Devils and is considered one of finest defenders of his generation.

Ferdinand can now usually be found on various media outlets as a pundit while he also hosts his own YouTube channel.

Nemanja Vidic

One of the best Premier League centre-backs of all time, ask any United fan who their favourite defender back in the day was and most likely it would be Vidic.

His career came to an end in 2016 when he retired while at Inter Milan, where he has remained as a resident preferring to be a stay-at-home father while sometimes representing the Red Devils as an ambassador.

Patrice Evra

The Frenchman is well-loved by United fans, where he has won a number of trophies including the Premier League and the Champions League.

It is not uncommon to find the Frenchman doing something strange on his Instagram - whether it be licking uncooked chickens or beating up vikings dressed as Batman.

Anderson

A bit of a strange one at United, Fergie clearly liked him but he never truly shone for the Red Devils despite wearing the No. 8 shirt.

The Brazilian retired from football last year and was charged with alleged involvement in a cryptocurrency fraud ring in August.

Michael Carrick

An underrated tool in United’s arsenal, the midfielder was known as a tempo-setter and was a cultured user of the ball.

He has not strayed too far though, moving from pitch to pitch-side where he remains a senior member of the coaching staff.

Ryan Giggs

Tops the list for all-time assists in the Premier League and is a member of the famed Class of ’92.

Giggs took over as Wales national manager in 2018 but has temporarily stepped away from the role after his arrest in November, 2020.

Park Ji-Sung

In 2017, Park graduated from Leicester ’s De Montfort University with an International MA in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.

After working as an ambassador for United, the South Korean legend has since returned to his homeland as a club advisor for K-League 1 side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

Wayne Rooney

To call yourself the all-time top goalscorer for England and United is some feat but that is exactly what Rooney is after an incredible playing career.

Now in charge of Derby County, he could not ask for a tougher start to his time in the dugout but if he has half the coaching career he did as a player, he will not be doing too badly at all.

Cristiano Ronaldo

And the big man himself, United fans adore Ronaldo and the fact he is returning has got them all reminiscing about those days when the Red Devils won everything.

Ronaldo returns to the club a born winner, he has five Champions League trophies, seven league titles, six domestic cups and two international trophies - as well as five Ballon d’Ors.

He will be hoping to add to those numbers this season.
