Cristiano Ronaldo's fury laid bare and Zinedine Zidane's potential Man Utd changes

As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job at the helm of Manchester United continues to be under pressure, one name has emerged as a clear favourite among fans to be the club's next manager: Zinedine Zidane.

The former Ballon d'Or winner enjoyed two very successful spells in charge of Spanish giants Real Madrid and recent reports have linked him with a move to Old Trafford.

If he does one day become United manager, Zidane could ring in the changes with several tactical switches likely to occur.

One of those could include a new role for star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who was heartbroken as Portugal conceded in the 90th minute against Serbia to hand their opponents an automatic qualifying spot for next year's World Cup.

He's not the only United player to be left disappointed in recent times as players battle for starting positions in the first XI.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Manchester United headlines.

De Gea's battle to become no. 1

This season is not the first time David de Gea has been under pressure as the United number one.

The Spaniard knows he has Dean Henderson breathing down his neck and could face a spell out of the first team with any errors and has started the season in fine form.

Back in the 2011-12 season, when Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford, De Gea was experiencing teething problems in his first Premier League season.

Cristiano Ronaldo's fury

Manchester United's number seven failed to hide his emotions after his Portugal side fell to a late loss against Serbia.

Portugal made the perfect start as Renato Sanches capitalised on a costly Serbia error and fired the home side ahead after just three minutes, but Rui Patricio's blunder allowed the visitors back into the game.

Ronaldo and his side pushed for a late winner, but against all the odds it was Aleksandar Mitrovic that stepped up as Serbia snatched it right at the death to stun Portugal.

The 36-year-old was furious, as Portugal now face a play-off to secure their place, and face the potentially of missing out altogether.

Zinedine Zidane's Man Utd blueprint

Zidane has been linked with Manchester United with current incumbent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under increasing pressure.

The former France international is currently out of work after leaving Madrid in the summer and given his track record of winning trophies, he would be a high-profile candidate for United if they part ways with Solskjaer.

Mirror Football has taken a look at Zidane’s Real Madrid teams to see what sort of plans he could implement at United, including a change in formation, a new role for Cristiano Ronaldo and new prominence for Jadon Sancho.
