Cristiano Ronaldo's first words since rejoining Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo says he has been 'overwhelmed' by the messages he has received since agreeing to rejoin Manchester United last week.

United struck an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of the Portuguese last Friday and formally announced the deal had been completed on transfer deadline day.

Ronaldo, 36, will join United on a two-year contract with the option to extend for a further year, subject to international clearance after the clubs agreed on a deal which could rise to €23million.

United will pay the €15million transfer fee for Ronaldo over the course of five years with the additional €8million payable upon activating a number of performance related add-ons.

The club officially confirmed the deal had been completed in a press release on Tuesday morning in which the club legend expressed his delight to be returning to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday," Ronaldo stated.

"I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again. I'm looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”
