Cristiano Ronaldo's "betrayal" to Man Utd fans leaves Old Trafford faithful seething

Manchester United fans have been left raging as rumours continue to escalate about a sensational move to Manchester City for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal star is looking to leave Juventus this summer after three years in Turin.

He has previously been linked with returns to United and Real Madrid as well as PSG.

The MLS has also been touted as a destination, but City have never factored in.

His history on the red side of Manchester, where he won three league titles and a Champions League, made a move seem unfathomable.

But as Ronaldo reaches the twilight of his career a switch seems to be materialising.

Reports claim City are yet to submit a formal offer for the 36-year-old, but the player and club are said are to have shaken on a deal with personal terms agreed.

It could take as little as £21.4m (€25m) to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Ronaldo risks tarnishing his legacy at United with fans already seething about the prospect on social media.

"Ronaldo has blood in his hands. He would be remembered as a traitor nothing else," said one.

Another added: "If Ronaldo goes to Man City, that is a betrayal & I can no longer support him. Would he really destroy his legacy with Man Utd like that? If he does, he doesn't deserve the legendary status he has here."

A third claimed: "As a Manchester United fan, if Ronaldo signs with City that would be disgraceful to the club. Man is instantly a traitor. That’d be like if Messi signed with Real Madrid after all those years with Barca."

The theme continued, with another fan saying: "I honestly can't believe (nor accept) the fact that @ManUtd legend, Cristiano Ronaldo is moving to Manchester City. I've lost all my love and respect for the man."

City have been looking to add a striker this summer and had made Harry Kane their prime target.

However the Tottenham star announced on Wednesday that he would be staying in north London, leaving the Premier League champions to look elsewhere.

Ronaldo requested to be left out of Juventus' starting XI for their Serie A opener with Udinese on Sunday, sparking speculation around his exit.

Bianconeri chief Pavel Nedved played down the situation, but Ronaldo told his team-mates he wanted to join City according to reports in Italy.

Ronaldo was quizzed back in 2015 about the possibility of joining Man City and played it down .

"You think the money is going to change my mind at 30 years old? I don't think, I don't think this going to be a problem," he said.

"If you speak about the money I could go to Qatar, they would probably have more money than Manchester City. It's not about the money, it's about the passion."
