Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed how close he came to joining Arsenal .
Former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had previously opened up on his failure to land the Portuguese superstar among many of the world's great players.
Ronaldo was watched by Arsenal before he made the move to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.
It was at Old Trafford where Ronaldo really made his name before shooting to superstardom in the years that followed.
In an interview with Piers Morgan on ITV, the Juventus forward was asked how close he actually came to playing in north London.
"I was one step away from joining Arsenal," Ronaldo said.
"I appreciate what Arsenal did for me, especially Arsene Wenger. They're a great club. "
Ronaldo, 34, will continue his quest to add another Champions League trophy to his collection when Juventus take on Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
He believes the best goal of his career came in the competition, against his current club for Real Madrid in 2018.
"My favourite goal is the one I scored against Juventus. By far the best I scored in my career," he added.
"I tried many times but I never succeeded. I think I'll never see a bicycle goal like that, probably one of the best goals I've seen, even if someone else scored it."
On his rise to the top, the Portuguese superstar said: "I worked for my success. Talent is not enough.
"I don't follow the records, the records follow me. Im addicted to success. It motivates me. The records come in a natural way. "
