Cristiano Ronaldo responds to Kylian Mbappe's message after Nations League meeting

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to Kylian Mbappe’s post-match message after their Nations League meeting.

Neither forward was able to get on the scoreboard in a 0-0 draw, remaining tied at the top of League A Group 3 on seven points.

It marked a special occasion for the 21-year-old, who revered the Juventus forward when he was growing up.

And it saw the PSG man send a message to Ronaldo on Instagram, sharing a photo of the pair on the pitch while simply writing “idol” as well as adding crown and goat emojis.

But the forward only needed one emoji to respond on the social media site, simply using a fist-pump emoji on his story.

The pair enjoyed several moments on the pitch, which also included a laugh before the second half started.

Ronaldo whispered something into the Frenchman’s ears before slapping his head and laughing while the forward laughed along.

And the pair also shared a hug at full time, having both failed to find the back of the net at the Stade de France.

Mbappe, who has scored 15 goals in 37 appearances for his country at just 21 years old, has talked out about his adulation for Ronaldo in the past.

"He is a hero from my childhood and it was amazing to meet him when I visited Valdebebas," he said.

"But I am a competitor and a person who is very competitive and all I want to do is win, win, win. So it doesn't really matter who is in front of us, we want to win.

And Ronaldo replied with a message of his own to Mbappe on Instagram (INSTAGRAM – CRISTIANO RONALDO)

"I admired him when I was younger, but that ended. Now I go to the Bernabeu to play and to win.

"From someone who has won five Ballons d'Or you can learn a lot. He's a great player, but I have those here too.

"Neymar is here and I think he is very similar and is at practically the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo."
