Cristiano Ronaldo proved right about Arsenal midfielder after making prediction in 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo backed Martin Odegaard to become a star back in 2016 when the Arsenal loanee was just a teenager.

The Norway midfielder signed for Real Madrid at the age of 16 from Stromsgodset, already having a huge reputation at such a young age.

That made the dream move to Madrid somewhat bittersweet because at such a tender age, the chances of him breaking into the first-team with the European powerhouse were very slim.

But Ronaldo, who would've played and trained with Odegaard in the Spanish capital, tipped the Norwegian for stardom back in 2016.

He told BT Sport: "You see many players with potential, I will mention Odegaard of Madrid for example.

"At 16 he's still young but you can see he's a very good player.

"[Eden] Hazard for example, the No.7 of Manchester [Memphis] Depay is a good player too. [Also Paul] Pogba and maybe Neymar."

Odegaard completed a loan move to the Gunners in January from Madrid and has been very impressive in recent games.

After scoring his first goal for Mikel Arteta's side in the Europa League Round of 16 tie with Olympiacos, the 22-year-old then netted in the very next game against Tottenham.

The youngster is still finding his feet in the Premier League but is already a very popular figure among Arsenal supporters.

The Gunners reportedly want Odegaard to sign on a permanent basis and that feeling is mutual, football.london understands, with the Real man keen on extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Odegaard is yet to hit the very top as Ronaldo predicted a few years ago, but if he was to stay put in north London, then Arsenal could certainly provide him with the platform to do just that.
