Cristiano Ronaldo produces brilliant skill against Man Utd's Chris Smalling for Juventus vs Roma

Chris Smalling's loan spell at Roma couldn't be going much better.

The Manchester United defender has found a new lease of life in Serie A, becoming a regular for Roma in the heart of defence.

It is understood Roma want to keep the former England international past this season, and Smalling himself has spoken of how much he is enjoying life in Italy.

Roma, sitting in fourth before the visit of Juventus, had only lost four times in 16 games when Smalling had played, and were looking to boost their Champions League chances with a good result against Maurizio Sarri's reigning champions.

It wasn't to be, as Juventus ran out 2-1 winners in the Italian capital, but it was not the result that had people talking about the game on Sunday night.

Instead, it was a passage of play involving Smalling and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, that saw the former United and Real Madrid winger produce a fantastic bit of skill to get past the defender.

Controlling a high ball with his back to goal, Ronaldo had Smalling behind him looking to force him away.

But while Smalling may have looked favourite to win the battle, Ronaldo took the ball down, turned to face the defender, dragging the ball back in the process before flicking it sideways and skipping past a bamboozled Smalling.

Ronaldo was then able to get a cross away to help his side on the attack.

While many fans on Twitter claimed Ronaldo was 'sending Smalling back to England' with the skill, others offered some tongue-in-cheek praise of Smalling's 'defensive awareness' in the move, joking that the United man was able to force Ronaldo wide and away from a goalscoring chance.
