Cristiano Ronaldo posts heartfelt message after Man United players meet young fan battling cancer

Cristiano Ronaldo shared an emotional message after Manchester United’s players met young fan River Rhodes on Tuesday night.

River was at Turf Moor to see United’s 1-1 draw against Burnley, and got the chance to meet some of the visitors’ stars before and after the game.

The youngster is currently receiving radiotherapy treatment in Manchester, and while his family support Wolves, River loves all football and relished the chance to meet some of his heroes on Tuesday.

A number of United’s stars, including Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, David de Gea, Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard stopped to pose for a picture with River, with Ronaldo sharing his meeting with him on Instagram.

“Children are and will always be the best thing the world has to offer, and we must protect them at all costs,” Ronaldo said in his post.

“Supporters are and will always be the best in football, and we must respect everything they face and endure for their clubs.”

River also took home a souvenir with him, with Lingard presenting him with his shirt from the game afterwards.

The winger posted after meeting the youngster: “Pleasure to meet you River, you’re an inspirational young man battling cancer and winning. Stay strong and keep fighting.”

And River showed off his present as he had a kickaround in his new shirt from Lingard after receiving treatment on Wednesday.

In a message on their website, United said: “It was an honour and privilege for our players to meet you, River. We all hope to see you again soon.”
