Cristiano Ronaldo has downplayed an injury sustained late in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win against Villarreal in La Liga.

The striker caused a scare when was substituted in Wednesday’s game and left the pitch limping with an apparent muscle injury in his right leg.

Ronaldo posted an Instagram photo on Thursday saying: “All good. Thanks for your support”.

Real had said Ronaldo would have medical tests as a precaution while Zinedine Zidane admitted he should rest the forward, who had played all but one minute of his side’s 43 league and European matches, more often.

“He got a fright but I don’t think it is anything serious,” Zidane told AS. “I am calmer now than when I saw him leave the pitch. For a coach when you have a player like Cristiano sometimes it is necessary for him to not play a game or not finish a match.”

Real’s next match is on Saturday at Rayo Vallecano before facing Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. Real are one point behind Barcelona and Atlético Madrid with four matches remaining.
