Cristiano Ronaldo planning to open luxury hotel with rooftop bar in Manchester city centre

Cristiano Ronaldo is to be involved in the opening of a luxury hotel named Pestana CR7 in Manchester city centre, with it due to open in 2023.

The 35-year-old is remembered fondly by Manchester United fans after he helped them win three Premier League titles and a Champions League during his six years at Old Trafford.

Portuguese hotelier Pestana has already opened six CR7 branded hotels, with the seventh set to be built on the corner of Piccadilly and Newton Street subject to planning permission.

It will be 4* and contain 151 bedrooms, a ground floor bar and cafe, a gym and roof terrace.

Announcing the news on their website, Pestana said: "It couldn’t be more appropriate – after all, this is the city where Cristiano Ronaldo started his international career in Man United back in 2003 and where he first used number 7."

New retail and leisure units would also be built next to the hotel along with an outdoor seating area.

The planning application states: "It will be made commercially viable through the introduction of a sensitively designed new hotel building; delivering a new 4* luxury boutique hotel across the site.

"The redevelopment of the site represents an important step towards delivering the full regeneration potential and agglomeration impacts of the Northern Quarter and will make a positive contribution towards the growing demand of the city’s hotel sector.

"Pestana are now keen to expand their brand into the regions and Manchester’s economic and regeneration context and visitor attraction presents a fantastic opportunity to establish their brand and second hotel in the UK."

Ronaldo has been enjoying his time off on his luxury yacht with his family since Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League by Lyon earlier this month, with the new Serie A season not due to kick off until September 19.
