Cristiano Ronaldo names striker he wants Juventus to sign before transfer window shuts

Cristiano Ronaldo has given Mauro Icardi his seal of approval as Juventus search for a strike partner for Portuguese superstar.

Serie A champions Juve are looking to revitalise their front line having only scored 70 goals last season, in comparison to the 74 and 77 netted by second and third placed Napoli and Atalanta.

Ronaldo, in his first season at the Allianz Stadium after moving from Real Madrid , bagged 28 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Juve have been on the hunt for wantaway Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, but a swap deal with Paulo Dybala fell through.

Ronaldo is said to be happy to be partnered with Lukaku, but has also told Maurizio Sarri that Inter Milan front man Icardi would also be welcomed, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Icardi endured a rocky campaign with Inter last season after a falling out with club bosses and his wife, come agent, Wanda Nara, over a new contract.

The Argentina international was stripped of the captaincy and missed 53 day of action last season.

Icardi did manage to 11 goals in 29 Serie A appearances last year - while also moving up to eighth in Inter's all-time goal scoring list.

Juve have already sold Moise Kean to Everton for £27.5million, while Mario Mandzukic and Dybala have both been linked with transfers away from Turin.

Lukaku is still Juve's top target but could face a rivalry from Inter.

But while the Belgian waits to hear about his future he has been training with Vincent Kompany's Anderlecht, having not played a minute of first team football in pre-season.
