Cristiano Ronaldo may have key role to play in Manchester United's January transfer business

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo can play a huge part in his side's transfer aims this month, with fellow countryman Ruben Neves recently linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Neves showed exactly why United are rumoured to be in the market for his signature as his Wolves side dominated proceedings during Monday's 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

With interim boss Ralf Rangnick now reportedly prioritising his midfield this window, the 24-year-old playmaker has been outlined as an ideal fit for his favoured 4-2-2-2 formation.

With Arsenal also reportedly keen on securing Neves' services, Wolves have placed a valuation of £40m on their player.

Though Neves is largely expected to remain at Molineux during the window, should a fight for his signature transpire then the player's affinity for Ronaldo could be a decider factor. The pair also share the same agent in Jorge Mendes.

Just this week Neves waxed lyrical about the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, telling reporters: "We have excellent players here that get talked about every day about the job they have been doing.

“I’ve played against many of my friends and obviously with Cristiano Ronaldo, I will have to watch him very closely because he is able to score a goal at any moment."
