Cristiano Ronaldo injury latest as Juventus provide update

Juventus have played down fears they will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for their Champions League quarter-final clash with Roma.

Ronaldo limped off in the first half of Portugal's game with Serbia on Monday night sparking fears he could miss Juve's trip to Amsterdam on April 10.

The Turin giants have confirmed the 34-year-old was withdrawn with a minor thigh problem to his right leg after pulling up chasing a ball down the line after half an hour of the game.

But they are understood to be hopeful he will not be at risk of missing next month's huge quarter-final as a result of the problem.

A statement from Juve on Tuesday said: " Cristiano Ronaldo underwent tests in Portugal that revealed a minor injury to his right thigh flexors.

"He will be monitored and subjected to further tests to establish when he can return to competitive action."

Ronaldo is likely to be missing as the Bianconeri face Empoli in Serie A on Saturday, whilst they face games against Cagliari and AC Milan in early April before their trip to Holland.

Juventus have already all but wrapped up the league title with a huge 15 point lead over second placed Napoli, meaning all eyes are on their quest for European glory.

Ronaldo is sure to be a huge part of that bid having inspired them to a stunning last-16 comeback with his second leg hat-trick against Atletico Madrid.

They'll be hoping he can shake off the thigh problem as soon as possible to play a full part in both games with Ajax.

Ronaldo himself insisted the injury was nothing to worry about immediately after the game, predicting he'd be back within "a week or two".

"I'm not worried about this injury and I'm not afraid, I know my body well. I think I'll be fine in a week or two," Ronaldo told journalists after the game.
