Cristiano Ronaldo immediately takes off his medal after Juventus lose Italian Super Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to inspire Juventus to victory as they went down 3-1 to Lazio in the Italian Super Cup on Sunday.

The Portuguese star has won an array of silverware throughout his career but the runners-up medal he collected at the weekend may not make his trophy cabinet.

Ronaldo immediately removed the medal as soon as it was placed around his neck on a disappointing night for Juve in Saudi Arabia.

Paulo Dybala's strike proved in vain as goals from Luis Alberto, Senad Lulic and Danilo Cataldi earned the Rome-based outfit a second victory over their rivals in three weeks.

Manager Maurizio Sarri said: "We arrived at this game short of energy, physically and mentally. This happens. Meanwhile, Lazio are experiencing a moment of incredible form.

"We are sorry we lost a title, but we still have many competitions to play for in the next five months.

"There is anger, but crying over it does not solve the problems.

"We did not lose because of the front three, since we conceded the [second and third] goals after I added a midfielder.

"I have a positive record against Lazio, and I don't think that the players will be influenced by these two games.

"As I said before the game, I don't think this final can affect the next five months of the league championship."

Juventus are locked on points with Inter Milan at the top of Serie A, although their title rivals have a superior goal difference.
