Manchester United have released their starting lineup for their first Premier League fixture of 2022 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and there are a few standout points that would put a smile on Sir Alex Ferguson's face.
Firstly, the partnership of Phil Jones and Raphael Varane at the heart of the defence, something that Ferguson had tried to bring to Old Trafford back in 2011, though he was unable to sign the latter who instead moved to Real Madrid.
Ferguson always spoke highly of Jones and, unfortunately, injuries have stopped him from fulfilling the potential that United's former manager saw in the defender.
Now, after missing 70 games through injury and a whole two years of senior football, Jones is set to get his chance back in the first team due to the absence of Harry Maguire.
Wolves were unlucky to lose against United earlier in the season, creating a lot of chances but failing to put any of them away, so some fans may be nervous about Jones' inclusion after such a long time out. Time will tell whether he's able to get up to the speed of the game.
Maguire's absence has also opened the door for another thing that Ferguson would enjoy seeing and that is the captain's armband being donned by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ferguson openly admitted he didn't think his choice of captain mattered too much, but when you have an abundance of leaders in your team, it becomes a non-issue for any manager.
But he did say of Ronaldo during the Portuguese forward's first spell with the club: "We don't make a meal of the captaincy or a big issue of it, but Cristiano looks for that kind of responsibility and is very comfortable with it."
Ralf Rangnick was quick to play down the gravitas of the gesture in his pre-match comments, saying it was a decision between Ronaldo and David de Gea.
But with Maguire being out of form this season, Ronaldo receiving the armband is something many United fans have asked for as they believe his attitude on the pitch is the perfect example for the club's young players.
And with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood set to play an important role behind Ronaldo against Wolves, they will likely benefit from his leadership upfront.
