Cristiano Ronaldo gives Manchester United injury update ahead of Aston Villa fixture

Cristiano Ronaldo is hoping to return from injury for Manchester United's match against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Ronaldo, 36, was absent from United's squad for their third-round FA Cup match at home to Villa earlier this week.

Ralf Rangnick provided an update on Ronaldo before that 1-0 win at Old Trafford and confirmed the player had a minor injury.

"I spoke to Cristiano yesterday before training and he said he’d had some problems for the last couple of days, spine minor problems," Rangnick said. "In the end, we decided it would make more sense not to take any risks in a cup game that could last 120 minutes."

Ronaldo has now revealed that he hopes to return for the Reds' Premier League match away at Villa on Saturday, though.

"I'm good. I just have a little touch but, you know, it's part of my work," Ronaldo told Premier League Productions.

"You know, we have to feel some pain sometimes. It's nothing big and I hope to be good soon.

"Hope so [return for Villa]. We will try on Thursday. I will try to train as normal. Let's see how the body reacts.

"Fingers crossed. I'm confident."

Ronaldo has 14 goals and three assists in 22 appearances for United this season.
