Cristiano Ronaldo gets birthday message from ex-Shamrock Rovers star Pat Flynn

Cristiano Ronaldo turned 35 yesterday and former League of Ireland star Pat Flynn took to Twitter to mark the occasion.

The ex-Shamrock Rovers defender went up against the Portuguese ace in a 2009 friendly, when Ronaldo made his debut for Real Madrid at Tallaght Stadium in front of 11,000 fans.

Ronaldo was welcomed to Dublin with a crunching tackle from Flynn early in the game and he hasn't been shy about reminding the five-time Ballon d'Or winner ever since.

Yesterday, he tweeted: "I can’t let your birthday pass without the video of me tackling you.

"Feliz Aniversário @Cristiano Você é tão fofo (you are so cute). Write Back."

And he went on to joke: "I like to think he has my jersey hanging up in his house over his fireplace."

Flynn called time on his League of Ireland career in 2016 after spending his final three seasons in the league with Longford Town.

In 2017, on the anniversary of the 2009 friendly, he poked fun at Ronaldo, tweeting: Happy Anniversary @Cristiano.

"Why dont u text back anymore, I know u read my messages cause I seen the 2 blue ticks...anyway, I still miss u."
