Cristiano Ronaldo explains what Manchester United need to win Premier League or Champions League

Cristiano Ronaldo says Manchester United need to 'be mature' if they are to have any chance of winning the Premier League or Champions League this season.

United maintained their unbeaten start to the new campaign over the weekend as they defeated Newcastle 4-1 at Old Trafford to strengthen their early title credentials.

Ronaldo, 36, stole the show as he grabbed a brace on his second debut for the club with a stellar performance which injected fresh belief into a fan base which hasn't witnessed a trophy lift in over four years.

The summer arrival of Ronaldo has heightened the expectations on United for the season ahead and the Portuguese forward insists the foundations are in place for a successful campaign.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner hailed the young squad at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's disposal but admitted they would need to show maturity beyond their years to claim either of the top two prizes in club football.

"Everyone has to do their job," Ronaldo told Sky Sports.

"We have a fantastic team, a young team and a fantastic coach.

"But as I told you before we have to build up confidence. The team needs to be mature if it wants to win the Premier League and Champions League.

"I think we are in a good way, we have to win games, build up the confidence, build up the team and I am here to help the team."
