Cristiano Ronaldo equals Wayne Rooney record for Manchester United

Crisitiano Ronaldo has equalled a long-standing Wayne Rooney record for Manchester United.

The 36-year-old attacker has been awarded Premier League's Player of the Month in his first month back at the club, beating Joao Cancelo, Antonio Rudiger, Allan Saint-Maximin, Mohamed Salah and Ismaila Sarr.

It is Ronaldo's fifth award and first since leaving Manchester United 11 years ago.

Ronaldo made a shock return to United after 12 years away from the club, nine of them at Real Madrid and three with Juventus.

The Portuguese striker has scored five goals in seven games for United so far, making a huge impact as many would have expected. Ronaldo is now just 13 goals away from joining the '100 club' - those who have scored 100 goals in the Premier League.

"Proud to be elected Player Of The Month among so many great players in the Premier League," Ronaldo tweeted after winning the award.

"Thanks to all my teammates at Man. United, couldn’t have done it without them.

"Let’s keep working hard and the results will come."

United will hope the Portuguese international continues his red hot form after dropping points against Aston Villa and Everton at home. They face Leicester after the international break.
