Cristiano Ronaldo criticised for reaction to Manchester United and Everton draw

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told he was wrong not to shake hands following a frustrating draw with Everton.

The 36-year-old completed a sensational return to Manchester United on deadline day and has already marked his second coming with five goals in six appearances.

United have, however, at times struggled for results and team performances.

Beaten in three separate competitions in September - culminating in Carabao Cup elimination - they signed off for the October international break with a 1-1 draw against Everton.

Ronaldo was only named on the bench for that game as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to rest the Portugal captain.

Identified as a reason for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner storming down the Old Trafford tunnel post-match, the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward ought to have shown respect to his opponents, according to pundit and former Arsenal player Nigel Winterburn.

Speaking to Paddy Power, the ex-Premier League player said: "I don't know why Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't shake anyone's hand after the Everton game, especially if they've offered to do so. I think he should've shaken their hands.

"At times, you can get frustrated and are unhappy with what's transpired. His frustration was probably because of the result and because he didn't start the game.

"Manchester United were winning at home, so the Everton result has to be considered as dropped points.

"If they're going to be considered as a title-challenging side, this can't continually happen, or they're going to come up short. I think they'll come up short anyway. The other three top teams will consistently dig out results when they need to."
