Cristiano Ronaldo cries over dead alcoholic father in Piers Morgan interview

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears discussing his late father in a TV interview with Piers Morgan.

After watching unearthed footage of Jose Dinis Aveiro – who died of alcoholism, aged 52 – discussing his achievements, the soccer star struggled to hold back his emotions.

Ronaldo said: “I didn’t expect to cry but I never saw these images.

“I don’t know my father 100 per cent – he was a drunk person.

“I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation.”

Equipment manager for local club Andorinha, Jose, who named Ronaldo after his favourite actor and US president Ronald Reagan, turned to booze as he struggled with the after-effects of defending Portugal in a series of wars.

During his interview, the 34-year-old confirmed plans to marry model girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, who he has been dating for three years.

He said: “It’s not the priority but, of course, one day for sure.”
