Cristiano Ronaldo Covid test latest as great Lionel Messi grudge match is left hanging

Cristiano Ronaldo is sweating on the results of a coronavirus test as he faces a battle to be cleared for his showdown with Lionel Messi.

Wednesday sees Juventus face Barcelona in the Champions League, the first time the two superstars will meet since CR7 moved to Turin.

The pair are considered the best players of their generation and regularly went head-to-head when the Portuguese was banging in goals for Real Madrid.

Only Luka Madric has broken their duopoly on the Ballon d'Or since 2008 and they were due to renew acquaintances on the pitch on Wednesday.

However, Ronaldo tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty with Portugual and while he has observed his mandatory quarantine period and is asymptomatic he must return a negative test before he can return to action.

The 35-year-old will be given a test on Tuesday evening, with Juve boss Andrea Pirlo admitting they'll leave it until the last minute in the hopes of having Ronaldo available.

Pirlo said in his pre-match press conference: "We have to wait for the outcome and in the evening we will have the final answer.

"We’re waiting for the result of the swab, then if it's negative we will see what to do.

“Right now everything is still up in the air, so when we get the result we’ll decide.

"After 15 days it will not be easy to play the whole game, but we hope to be able to evaluate him.”
