Cristiano Ronaldo concedes he needed to "get some confidence back" after free-kick goal

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted his goal against Torino was needed so that he could "get some confidence back".

The five-time Ballon D'Or winner is known for his self belief but had struggled to convert from dead ball situations.

He struck in the Turin derby to bag his first free-kick goal for the Bianconeri and end a two year drought.

Ronaldo had failed with 42 previous attempts but smashed home to score Juventus's third in their 4-1 win.

“I really needed that free-kick goal so I could get some confidence back,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“We knew it would be a difficult game, but we worked hard, won and are now putting pressure on Lazio. We achieved the objective today.

“It doesn’t matter who scores goals, as long as the team wins. We’re all in good shape and will try to win against Milan too, which is another difficult match.”

Ronaldo's manager Maurizio Sarri admits he didn't know his star player was struggling with confidence issues.

But revealed that the 35-year-old breathed a sigh of relief after netting on Saturday night.

"I honestly didn't think it was [a problem] but at the end of the match, he came to me and said 'finally'," he told reporters.

Despite Ronaldo's problems from free-kicks the Portuguese star did break a 60 year club record.

He became the first man since Omar Sívori in 1960 to score 25 league goals for the Old Lady in a season.

The three points was timely for the Serie A champions who took a giant step towards retaining their crown.

Lazio, their closest challengers, are now seven points behind after they lost to AC Milan.
