Cristiano Ronaldo comparison made as Arsenal set to be without key players for Tottenham clash

What happened to Tierney in training session

Arsenal players have been preparing for the second north London derby of the season against Tottenham later today.

It has emerged that Gunners left-back Kieran Tierney has picked up a new nickname amongst his team-mates.

As spotted in a behind the scenes training video on the club’s YouTube channel - you can hear a coach scream “Tescos” as Tierney prepares himself for a headed attempt at goal.

The nickname probably has something to do with the Scot being pictured carrying his matchday gear in a Tesco carrier bag before the Sheffield United FA Cup tie.

Tottenham v Arsenal: Premier League match preview

The players Arteta will be missing for Spurs clash

Arsenal will be without seven players for the north London derby against Tottenham later this evening.

Eddie Nketiah will of course be missing after his red card against Leicester City earlier in the week, and will serve the first game of his three-match suspension.

Calum Chambers, Bernd Leno, Gabriel Martinelli and Pablo Mari are all expected to miss the rest of the season through injury.

When Mikel Arteta was asked about Mesut Ozil or Matteo Guendouzi being involved, the Spaniard replied: “No, no updates, sorry.”

Ronaldinho draws Ronaldo comparisons with Martinelli

Brazil legend Ronaldinho has compared Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli to another one of the South American country’s heroes, Ronaldo.

Speaking to the Mirror, Ronaldinho said this on Martinelli: “We as Brazilians are very excited about him and his future.

“It is one thing to have the talent - but another at the age of 18 to have the confidence.

“He reminds me of Ronaldo in his first season in Europe, he scored 30 goals and people were thinking: ‘Who is this 18-year-old Brazilian kid?’”
