Cristiano Ronaldo caught up in petrol crisis as Bentley driver waits seven hours to refuel - without success

He had plenty left in the tank in the 95th minute of last night's Champions League match against Villareal.

But it was a different story for Cristiano Ronaldo's £220,000 Bentley in Cheshire yesterday.

The Man United star's driver was spotted waiting almost seven hours to refuel at a petrol station in Wilmslow - only to give up without success.

The government said today it believes the country's fuel crisis is easing.

Ronaldo's staff waited around for almost seven hours but left empty-handed, witnesses said (Eamonn and James Clarke)

It is believed less than a third of petrol stations are now experiencing shortages, compared with around 60 per cent at the weekend.

Chief secretary to the Treasury Simon Clarke has insisted the fuel supply situation is "back under control" and more fuel is being delivered to petrol stations than is being sold.

Speaking to Sky's Kay Burley, he said the situation will "continue to ease" if people "just return to normal habits".

"We're confident that situation will continue to improve," he added.

The Mayor Andy Burnham has said he believes the petrol crisis is 'not as bad' in Greater Manchester (Eamonn and James Clarke)

The Mayor Andy Burnham also said he has been told the situation is 'not as bad' in Greater Manchester as in other parts of the country.

But that was no consolation to Ronaldo's staff as they queued for fuel on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the Bentley Flying Spur pulled in at around 2.20pm

But by 9pm his driver realised a tanker wasn't arriving with a delivery and left the forecourt empty-handed.

Ronaldo - who has reportedly moved into a £3million house in Cheshire - was nowhere to be seen.

One bystander told the M.E.N.: "Even with all Ronaldo's money, he's in the same boat as the rest of us.

"His security waited for hours obviously hoping a tanker would eventually arrive but they were forced to drive off."

Ronaldo was seen driving another of his luxury cars - a Porsche - into training on Thursday (Eamonn and James Clarke)

Clearly the disappointment didn't affect Ronaldo's mood.

The 36-year-old scored in stoppage time for United to secure a crucial win in the Champions League at Old Trafford.

And this morning he was spotted driving into training in a Porsche - one of his many other luxury cars.
