Cristiano Ronaldo breaks down in tears as Portugal crash out of World Cup

• Cristiano Ronaldo was left in tears after Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup by Spain on Monday evening.
• Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino scored the only goal of the game in the 91st minute as Portugal suffered World Cup heartbreak.
• This is almost certain to be Ronaldo’s final World Cup as he will be 45 when the next one comes around in 2030, and he was clearly emotional at the final whistle.
• Ronaldo was initially seen staring into the distance as it dawned on him that his World Cup dream was over, but he was unable to hold back the tears before he left the pitch and slowly walked back to the dressing room with his head bowed.
