Cristiano Ronaldo backed for sensational Man Utd return as club urged to "find a place" for star

Manchester United legend Gary Pallister says he is confident his former club can pull off a stunning move to tempt Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford this summer.

Ronaldo has had another superb personal season at Juventus, scoring 28 goals in 32 appearances in Serie A.

But despite the 36-year-old's heroics the team have struggled, and find themselves in serious danger of missing out on Champions League football next season as they currently sit fifth in the table with just two games of the campaign remaining.

There are some suggestions that Ronaldo will look to move on if that is the case, and one possible option touted has been that of re-signing for United - 12 years after he left the club for Real Madrid.

And speaking to Compare.bet, Pallister stated his belief that the move really could happen.

"I could see him coming back," he said. "He had a great time at Old Trafford, and coming back here would suit Cristiano with Juve struggling with Champions League qualification.

"He didn't have issues here the first time round under the leadership of Sir Alex (Ferguson), and you can see that he still looks after himself and has that hunger.

"He still wants to compete at the top level and play Champions League football, and if he comes to United you have to find a place for Cristiano Ronaldo.

"He's a magnificent player and still has that hunger to prove himself as the best player that's ever walked this planet.

"I think he's on record as wanting to play until he's 40. Sometimes when you're bringing a player back to a club you worry about the hunger and desire if it's something seen as more of a final payday.

Ronaldo is remembered as a Manchester United legend (PA)

"But you see the way he talks and trains, he's still keen and can be one of the best players in the world at United."

Ronaldo still has a year left on his current contract at Juve, but a big-money move to the USA or a return to his first club Sporting Lisbon are also being suggested as possibilities if he decides to leave imminently.
