Erik ten Hag has dropped Cristiano Ronaldo from his Manchester United squad after the striker's full-time strop against Tottenham.
Ronaldo, an unused sub in the 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, stormed off down the tunnel before the game had ended. Goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes capped United 's most impressive Premier League yet under Ten Hag but a sour note was cast over the victory as pundits and fans inevitably reacted to Ronaldo's behaviour. Reports on Thursday evening have claimed the 37-year-old refused to come on as a sub.
Ten Hag promised afterwards he would address the incident and United have now released a statement announcing the Portuguese will not be involved when his team-mates head for London to face Chelsea in another huge league fixture on Saturday, nor will he take part in training over the next three days. The statement said: “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”
