Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho agree about Bruno Fernandes ahead of Tottenham vs Man United

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester United in their first Premier League fixture since the season was postponed.

Jose Mourinho faces his former side in north London as he aims to get Spurs' season back on track, with a top four place still in reach.

The break came at a good time for Spurs, with the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn all recovering from injuries which kept them out of games in March before the campaign was halted.

The trio will be key to Mourinho's plans from now until the end of the season, and are likely to all take to the pitch on Friday 19 June when United arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

One player who they will have to face is Bruno Fernandes, who has already established himself as one of United's key players during his short career at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese midfielder, who was thought to be a Tottenham target in the past, joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side from Sporting in the January transfer window, in a deal that could rise to £67.6million.

Since his arrival, United have been unbeaten in the Premier League, with Fernandes contributing two goals and three assists in five matches.

The 25-year-old is no stranger to Spurs boss Mourinho, who is well aware of his compatriot's talent after watching him perform at Sporting and the Portuguese national team.

Fernandes plays alongside Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo at international level, with Ronaldo previously questioning why Fernandes didn't get a big move last summer.

He told Goal: “In the national team you have [Joao] Cancelo, Bruno Fernandes, who nobody knows why he doesn’t leave. In the national team, you have a lot of talent.”

Former Manchester United winger Nani went a step further, predicting at the time that the 25-year-old would thrive if he moved to the Premier League.

He told A Bola: “I often said to him, ‘you with the strength you have, if you train a little more you will explode and drive the English crazy’. England is where he will shine.”

Speaking last summer, Mourinho revealed his surprise at Fernandes' goal-scoring form, but much like Nani and Ronaldo, he was also full of praise for the midfielder's talent.

“I was surprised by the season of Bruno Fernandes," Mourinho told Eleven Sports. "It was easy to predict quality, he is a very good player, but scored a very high number of goals for a midfield player.

“It shows that you need to have instinct and qualities to score and he has it all. He strikes the ball well, heads well, cool when he is one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

"He finds space in the penalty area. It’s all there.”
