Cristian Romero's reaction to Tottenham equaliser spotted as Chelsea fume over hair pull

Cristian Romero was in the thick of the action during Tottenham Hotspur's 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Argentinian made some crunching tackles and got involved in some controversy towards the end as Antonio Conte's side shared the spoils thanks to Harry Kane's late leveller. It was the Blues who took the lead in the first half through a fantastic volley from new signing Kalidou Koulibaly on his home debut.

Chelsea continued to dictate matters after the break, although they were pegged back when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalised with a shot from outside the box. That had its controversy though, with Thomas Tuchel livid on the sidelines that what he saw as a foul on Kai Havertz just moments before Hojbjerg struck.

Tuchel and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte had a slanging match on the touchline and both were cautioned.

But rather than let it get to them, Chelsea went straight back on the front foot and Reece James fired home to put them 2-1 up. The Blues looked to be cruising to victory, but in injury-time, Kane nodded home an Ivan Perisic corner.

However, Tuchel was furious with an incident prior to Spurs' equaliser involving Romero.

From a corner before the one Spurs scored from, Romero was seen tugging the hair of Marc Cucurella in the box. And despite VAR looking at it, no punishment was forthcoming. Had VAR ruled it worthy of a red card, Chelsea would have been given a free-kick and the second corner would not have happened.

In the aftermath of Kane scoring, Romero seemed to be in ruthless mood as he appeared to scream at James, who had put Chelsea ahead in the 77th minute.

The two then clashed before Romero ran off to celebrate with his Tottenham teammates, including Kane and Richarlison, who ran off to the travelling away end.

Despite the controversy surrounding Romero's actions, he put in an excellent performance. The defender won the most duels (10), most recoveries (8) and most ball steals (4) against the Blues.

It is a result that keeps Spurs unbeaten after they thrashed Southampton 4-1 last weekend. They are on the same number of points as Chelsea following the Blues' 1-0 victory at Everton.
