Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero has made an admission that will delight Spurs fans ahead of the crucial Manchester United Premier League clash this weekend.
Romero, 23, signed on a six-year deal from Serie A outfit Atalanta in the summer as Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld's replacement as new director Fabio Paratici had the daunting task of replacing the duo.
Winning the Copa America with Argentina had excited the Lillywhites faithful but an adjustment period was always needed and that has been clear at the start of this 2021/22 campaign.
His recent improved form was summed up by his solid performances in the most recent encounters against West Ham and Burnley in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, respectively.
In the former of the two games, his fiery incident with Pablo Fornals demonstrated his willingness to fight for the cause and most importantly, make himself a fan favourite in north London.
Despite being part of a defence that eventually lost against West Ham, the much-needed cup win against the Clarets provided the perfect tonic for Nuno Espirito Santo and his team to build upon ahead of the United game.
'Fairly solid at the back up against Burnley's frontmen and helped them see the game out. Another good shift from the summer signing, 7,' football.london rated the 23-year-old for his performance at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Speaking ahead of the Saturday Night Football in an Italian TV interview via CalcioNews24, Romero said when reflecting on his early stay so far with the north Londoners: “Now I feel at home. Each change requires a certain period of adaptation, but now I’m fine and I hope to be able to continue playing at these levels. I have to thank Giovani Lo Celso. He helped me in this period of adaptation.
“I like having him as a teammate, both in the club and in the national team. He is a great friend, but he did not influence my decision. I chose to come to Tottenham because it’s a great club that plays in the best league in the world”.
The positivity relayed in this message was also prevalent in Jamie Redknapp's assessment of the summer signing when he analysed each one post 3-2 Newcastle victory.
What do you make of Nuno Espirito Santo so far at Tottenham? Have your say in the survey below.
"I think they [Tottenham] have a proper player in Romero, although he made a mistake, sometimes making a mistake in a big game can really help you," he explained on Sky Sports, after the game.
"I think he’s going to be a really talented defender, he’s got all the attributes, he’s aggressive, he might get sent off sometimes, he can be a bit rash but I think they’ve got a really good signing and he'll learn from those mistakes."
Next up for the defender is the challenge posed by United's Cristiano Ronaldo- certainly a big step up from having to deal with Chris Wood in Tottenham's most recent challenge.
