Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera has received his maiden senior international call-up for Spain ahead of the World Cup.
The versatile centre-back was on Friday named in La Roja head coach Luis de la Fuente’s 27-man squad for the upcoming home friendly double-header against Serbia and Egypt.
It represents a promotion for Mosquera, 21, who has previously represented Spain from Under-15 to Under-23 level.
There had previously been reports in 2025 that the Alicante-born player could yet switch his international allegiance to Colombia, where his parents are from, in order to earn a place at this summer’s World Cup finals in North America.

However, Mosquera will now hope to be capped for Spain as they host Serbia at the Estadio de la Ceramica in Villarreal next Friday (March 27), ahead of a meeting at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium on March 31 with an Egypt team missing their injured talisman Mohamed Salah.
He is joined in the squad by Arsenal team-mates David Raya and Martin Zubimendi.
Mosquera joined the Premier League leaders from Valencia last summer in a deal worth an initial £13million and has impressed when called upon, yet to become a regular starter amid fierce competition for places but having made 25 appearances across all competitions and also battled an ankle injury.
He replaced an injured Jurrien Timber off the bench in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Everton, though Ben White was preferred as the starter at right-back in Timber’s absence for Tuesday’s defeat of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
Arteta will face a choice between Mosquera and White again at Wembley on Sunday, if Timber is not ready to return in the Carabao Cup final showdown against title rivals Manchester City.
Mosquera was not the only first-time call-up made by Spain with the World Cup approaching, with De La Fuente also drafting in Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia, Real Sociedad forward Ander Barrenetxea and Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.
Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro, Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Manchester City midfielder Rodri and Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino are the other Premier League-based players to be included in the squad.
