Crisis-hit Cambuslang Rangers blow as chief walks away amid 'strained' relationship

A Cambuslang Rangers committee member has left the club due to a "strained" relationship behind the scenes.

Secretary David Ashcroft released a statement The Lang social media confirming his exit from the junior outfit.

The shock decision came just hours after the West Region Championship side had urged fans to "rally round and really help" the club "out of this relegation fight" in a Twitter statement ahead of the clash with Criagmark.

Following the 2-2 draw, the committee hastily cancelled a fundraising race night yesterday before the notice of resignation was revealed.

The result leaves the club stuck in the relegation places of the division.

Ashcroft is the second board member to leave the board in as many months after vice-chairman Jim Logan left Somervell Park at the beginning of February.

The outgoing secretary stated: "It is with a heavy heart that I resign from my position of secretary at Cambuslang Rangers with immediate effect.

"I have loved my time at the club and although it has been hard, all good things must come to an end.

"My working relationship with my friend is strained and I’m not losing a friend over football.

"I wish the club all the best from the bottom of my heart."

It is the latest blow to the Cambuslang junior side as the club face court action over a five-figure cash dispute with a former board member.

Nikki Niven, who was the Lang’s treasurer from July 2018 to January 2019, claims she is owed £40,000 but would settle for a considerably lesser sum of £26,000.

She previously stated to the Rutherglen Reformer and Lanarkshire Live Sport that she had launched the litigation process.
