Cris Collinsworth the latest to defend Baker Mayfield to Colin Cowherd

It’s getting hard for avowed Baker Mayfield hater Colin Cowherd to find guests who share his stilted, sour view of the dynamic Browns QB. The latest to rebuff the FOX radio host’s efforts to slam Mayfield is former NFL Pro Bowl WR and NFL broadcast veteran Cris Collinsworth.

Collinsworth, who is the majority owner of Pro Football Focus, joined Cowherd’s show as a featured guest. Like a moth to a flame, Cowherd could not resist taking shots at Mayfield. And as many other guests, including PFF analyst Sam Monson and former Ravens WR Steve Smith, have done repeatedly, Collinsworth told Cowherd that’s he’s full of it.

“I’ve got to admit: I love Baker Mayfield,” Collinsworth says with a wry smile.

After noting how much PFF loved Mayfield as a prospect and how he played with cocksure QBs like Boomer Esiason in the NFL, Collinsworth broke it down for an incredulous Cowherd.

“There’s something about the quarterback position that has that sort of swagger, charisma, whatever it is you want to say, that in the darkest of times in football games, when everything hurts and you’re getting whipped, and nothing’s going right — and if that guy still believes, it gives you a chance,” Collinsworth explained carefully.

“I think Baker Mayfield has that in him,” Collinsworth continued. He then compared him to Brett Favre and John Elway as quarterbacks who might not be perfect but make their teams believe they have a chance to win every game, no matter how it might be going.

Will this latest expert opinion proving Cowherd wrong shut up the recalcitrant Baker hater? Don’t bet on it. Some people just like to be wrong…
