Cringe interview walkouts - Peter Andre's tears, Fergie 'ambushed' and camera punch

Poor celebrities. Press junkets can be so tedious and being asked the same questions about your film or new album for weeks on end gets tiresome.

Others are enraged when journalists and TV hosts bring up events or quotes from their past, and they have even been known to stand up, unclip their microphone and storm off.

It's every journalist's worst nightmare, but it reportedly happened to Australia's Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran, who denied being suspended for two weeks after a "car crash interview" with singer Adele went so badly, she got up and left.

Doran had flown to London especially for the exclusive interview with Adele, who recently released her new album 30, but when she asked him what he thought of it, he replied: "I haven't listened to it."

The presenter's shameful admission is said to have been enough to send the Hello singer walking out, though Doran claimed Adele had actually stayed longer than planned and didn't end the interview early.

"It was an oversight but not a deliberate snub," the embarrassed host said. "This is the most important email I have ever missed."

The filmed recording, which belongs to Sony, may never see the light of day - but plenty more examples exist of celebrities getting up and walking away from excruciatingly awkward interviews.

A 2015 interview with Good Day Sacramento got off to a bad start when the hosts accidentally called Paper Towns star Cara Delevingne 'Carla'.

But as the interview went on, the poker-faced actress rolled her eyes and answered several questions sarcastically - and the presenters appeared to have offended her when they asked if she'd actually read the book the film was based on.

"Uh, no I never read the book, or the script. I kind of winged it," she remarked, before saying John Green was one of her favourite novelists.

When Cara was asked if she found it better to focus when her schedule was jam-packed, she was clearly puzzled, as she said: "No. I don't know where that comes from."

The anchors tried to find out if Cara could relate to her character, as they asked: "Do you have anything in common with her?"

Cara scoffed: "No, I actually hate her."

The video call delay along with the awkward line of questioning led to the chat being tough to watch.

Another host from the show cut in and accused Cara of not being excited about the film and being "irritated", and the star admitted she was tired because it was early in the morning.

The presenters asked if Cara might be jet-lagged before advising her to "take a nap or have a Red Bull", and the furious model replied that they had gone "too far", sitting in silence until the line went dead.

Robert Downey Jr. brands Channel 4 journalist a "bottom-feeding muckraker"

Robert Downey Jr. stormed out of an Avengers: Age of Ultron interview by Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 News (Channel 4)

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. branded a Channel 4 interviewer a "bottom-feeding muckraker" in a 2015 interview that didn't quite go to plan.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy brought up Robert's past substance abuse, which the actor has spoken about openly before.

But Robert, who has been sober since 2003, took issue with this.

Guru-Murthy said: "The reason I’m asking you about your past is, you’ve talked in other interviews about your relationship with your father and the role in all of that of the dark periods you went through, taking drugs and drinking and all of that.

"I just wondered whether you think you’re free of all of that or whether that’s something -"

Robert then cut in: "What are we doing? Are we promoting a movie?" before walking out.

He later told Howard Stern he was still angry about the interview, and said he had no regrets.

"I just wish I’d left sooner," he said.

"What I have to do in the future is, give myself permission to say, 'That is more than likely a syphilitic parasite, and I need to distance myself from this clown.'

"Otherwise, I’m probably going to put hands on somebody, and then there’s a real story."

He went on to insist Guru-Murthy had a "creepy, dark agenda", though the journalist insisted he had cleared the line of questioning with Robert's PR beforehand.

Naomi Campbell's 'blood diamond' fury

Naomi Campbell was questioned about being given a blood diamond by Liberian president Charles Taylor (Youtube)

One question in a 2011 Naomi Campbell interview infuriated the supermodel so much, she stormed off set and punched a camera.

She lashed out after being quizzed over allegations she was given a "blood diamond" by deposed African president Charles Taylor, who had been accused of war crimes.

"I didn't receive a diamond and I'm not going to speak about that, thank you," Naomi told ABC News before walking off and slamming a camera to the floor.

The 'blood diamond' allegations first surfaced when actress Mia Farrow told prosecutors she heard Naomi describe a "huge diamond" she had received from Taylor.

"You don't forget when a girlfriend tells you she was given a huge diamond in the middle of the night," Mia insisted.

Naomi eventually testified in Taylor's trial and said she had received gems she "presumed" were from Taylor but that she didn't know they were diamonds, and she immediately gave them to Jeremy Ratcliffe, the former head of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

This wouldn't be the only time Naomi ended an interview early - she also walked off without a word when grilled about her relationship with One Direction star Liam Payne in 2019 amid rumours they were dating.

Sarah Ferguson 'ambushed' by undercover footage

Sarah Ferguson claimed she was "ambushed" and stormed out of an interview with Australian show 60 Minutes host Michael Usher in 2012.

Fergie was outraged when Usher asked her to watch undercover footage of her offering to sell access to ex-husband Prince Andrew for £500,000.

She was also filmed demanding that the clip of her stomping out of the interview be cut, and the station described the interview as the "weirdest you will ever see".

Fergie's Australian manager John Scott rang producer Hamish Thomson to demand that the interview not be aired.

He said: "He hasn’t had the decency to get back to me, despite showing the Duchess in the worst possible light. We had gone through the questions beforehand.

"She walked out when she was ambushed, no, it was entrapment."

Fergie returned to finish the interview after cooling down, but Usher would later brand it a "trainwreck".

"She walked out on me three or four times. It was absolutely horrendous," he said, adding that royals always falsely believe they are above scrutiny.

Peter Andre reduced to tears by Kay Burley

Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre couldn't contain his emotions as he was quizzed about his kids by Sky News host Kay Burley, and ended up crying live on air.

Pete had expected to chat about his new album - but instead Burley grilled him on how he would feel if Katie Price's then husband, cage fighter Alex Reid, wanted to adopt his children.

She also showed him a clip of footballer Dwight Yorke saying Pete had been disrespectful for asking to adopt his son Harvey when he was with Katie.

While the baffled star defended his love for Harvey at the time, and defiantly told Burley that he would "fight to the death" to stop anyone taking his kids away, his TV series Peter Andre: The Next Chapter showed him sobbing on the Sky news couch moments after Burley cut to an ad break.

He then walked off stage to be comforted by his management and brother, Mike.

"I just flipped. Something switched in my head. She threw in a question that I never would have expected which was what if my kids were taken away from me, and of course that just tore me apart," he told reporters afterwards.

Peter vowed never to go on Burley's show again, though she later claimed he cried on her shoulder during the ad break and there were no hard feelings.

Boy George is grilled on assault and false imprisonment charge

Boy George was angered when his previous conviction was brought up (PA)

In 2016, Boy George stormed out of an interview when the host brought up his 2008 conviction for falsely imprisoning a male escort.

George was jailed in 2009 for 15 months after being found guilty of assault and false imprisonment of model Audun Carlsen, who was handcuffed to a wall fixture and beaten with a metal chain during the ordeal.

Carlsen had hit out at the fact the singer had been made a mentor on The Voice, claiming George "ruined his life and never said sorry".

George responded: "You know what, why don’t you move on to something more helpful, you know what I mean?"

Unclipping his microphone and leaving, George said: "In fact, you know what... thank you."

He later tweeted: "I will open that can of worms when I am ready. Not while things are going so well for me.

"I got more media from ending the interview. Job done."

The interviewer, whose name was Joni Street, said of the incident: "I was really shocked that he walked out. He had already answered a question on the topic so beautifully.

"He had said he wanted to move on and use his past as a way of helping others with addiction."

Justin Bieber gets lost in translation

Fed up Justin Bieber ditched a Spanish radio station after they asked him questions including "do you dress yourself?" and "is there a woman in your life?"

The interview required a use of a translator which already made things awkward, but the questions were rapid fire and several didn't seem to make sense.

"You are 21, you are like a superstar, why you say sorry? For what? For being a superstar?" was the opener.

Justin looked increasingly bewildered, before getting the huff when the hosts asked him to "make a crazy video to break the internet" for their "hundreds of millions of followers".

Justin scoffed: "Hundreds of millions?" before walking off the set silently.

He later tweeted that he had been feeling unwell, though he didn't address the ill-fated interview directly.

Russell Crowe's 'Irish' accent

Hollywood star Russell Crowe ended an interview early after it was suggested his Robin Hood accent sounded a little Irish.

Radio 4 presenter Mark Lawson implied Russell hadn't quite nailed the British accent, and it didn't go down well.

"You've got dead ears, mate. You've seriously got dead ears if you think that's an Irish accent," Russell retorted.

Lawson hurriedly said it was only "hints" of Irish in the accent, but the damage was already done.

"B*****s," proclaimed an angry Russell.

"I'm a little dumbfounded you could possibly find any Irish in that character - that's kind of ridiculous, but it's your show."

Lawson asked if Russell was aiming for a Northern accent, and he replied: "No, I was going for an Italian - missed it? F*** me."

After refusing to answer further questions, Russell got up and stormed off, reiterating: "I don't get the Irish thing, by the way. I don't get it at all."
