'Crimson Desert' Fishing Guide: How to Catch, Buy, and Master Angling in Pywel

Fishing in "Crimson Desert" is more than a relaxing side activity. In your rest time, it's a valuable way to gather resources, earn money, and improve survival skills across Pywel.

Some gamers fish because they need to cook, while others want to prove they are the best angler in the game. To get started with fishing, here's a quick guide just for you.

How to Fish in Crimson Desert

Fishing is simple and accessible early in the game. You only need a fishing rod. You don't need a bait or special quest unlocks required. Most bodies of water with enough depth can be used.

Equip your rod and press L2/LT (controller) or Q (keyboard) to check if fishing is possible. A glowing bait icon will appear; if it's blue, you can cast your line. After a few seconds, you'll hear a sound signaling a fish nearby. Press R2/RT or the right mouse button to hook it.

To successfully catch fish, you need to tire them out. Move your rod in the opposite direction of the fish's pull, briefly loosening tension when it changes direction. Only reel in once the fish stops splashing, as reeling too early can cause it to escape.

Where to Get a Fishing Rod

Fishing rods are essential but not always free. According to Polygon, early-game players can purchase one from vendors:

  • Alden at Hernand's Provisioner Shop (east of Oakenshield Manor) – 15 copper coins
  • Hailard at Rodbel Fishing Dock (south of Rocca's Hill) – 15 copper coins

Be cautious when visiting Rodbel Fishing Dock early on, as bandits may occupy the area.

Where to Buy Fish

If you prefer to skip fishing, you can buy fish directly from Hailard:

  • Pond Loach – 27 copper coins
  • Small Rasbora – 27 copper coins
  • Small Gudgeon – 27 copper coins
  • Tench – 79 copper coins
  • Yellow Bass – 85 copper coins

Why Do You Need to Fish in 'Crimson Desert'

Fishing supports your journey by providing food, trade items, and crafting resources. Combined with other life skills like cooking, logging, and mining, it helps you prepare for tougher challenges across Pywel.
