Having firmly established itself as one of the biggest games of the year, we've been waiting for official word on Crimson Desert DLC since soon after it launched. Developer Pearl Abyss has been clear that expansions are coming, and now it's provided some broad details about what's coming for the fantasy sandbox.
"We are preparing various follow-up strategies for Crimson Desert, including DLCs and platform expansions," the company writes in its latest financial report. "Given that Crimson Desert is an IP with substantial potential for expansion - spanning its rich world, characters, and regions - we plan to extend its product lifecycle through a steady stream of content updates."
This is more or less what the studio and publisher have been saying for some time now, but the next part is what's actually interesting. "We are currently developing the first DLC with the goal of delivering a new gameplay experience, targeting a release within this year," the statement continues. "Details regarding its structure, pricing, and exact release schedule will be shared during the third quarter."
These things are always written in corpo-speak, but that sounds like a release window and a timetable for when we'll hear more. I'm not entirely sure if "within this year" means the calendar year or the fiscal year, but either way, it's not too far off, and knowing the cadence for when we'll see it is coming in the third quarter is helpful as well.
Pearl Abyss finishes by saying nothing is set in stone right now for how much DLC is on the way and what it'll all look like. "Our primary focus is on ensuring the quality and successful execution of the first DLC," it says, which is an entirely fair and grounded outlook.
We mightn't see a roadmap any time soon, but Kliff will have more of the wilds of Pywel to wander through in the not-too-distant future. Glorious.
