Developer Pearl Abyss has officially apologized and promised full transparency and corrective measures to address the issue.
AI-Generated Assets Cause Player Outcry

Following the release, players noticed several 2D visual props that appeared to be created using AI generative tools.

Pearl Abyss Issues Official Apology
Pearl Abyss explained that the AI-generated assets were meant to be replaced before launch but were mistakenly included.
On the "Crimson Desert Steam" page, the developer added a notice stating:
"Generative AI technology is used in a supplementary capacity during the creation of some 2D prop assets."
The team assured players that these elements will eventually be replaced with manually crafted content.
Plans to Remove AI Assets
The studio has committed to a full audit of all in-game assets to ensure no AI-generated content remains in the final product.
According to Engadget, updated assets will be deployed in future patches, and Pearl Abyss plans to improve communication with players to maintain transparency and trust regarding content creation practices.
Industry-Wide AI Disclosure Concerns
"Crimson Desert" is not the first game to face scrutiny over AI usage. Last year, Sandfall Interactive lost Game of the Year and Debut Game awards for leaving AI-generated textures in "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33."
Similarly, Embark Studios, developer of "Arc Raiders," is replacing AI-created assets following backlash.

AI-assisted tools are becoming increasingly common in game development. This means that studios should be more transparent if they are using AI along the way.
Last week, "Crimson Desert" was bombarded by negative reviews on Steam. Some fans complain that it failed to capture the essence of a true RPG, while others thought that its combat system was underwhelming.
