This week's court round-up covers everything from a stalker who continues to try to write to his celebrity victim, a terrifying incident outside a Nottingham bar, and a gang of Lego thieves who learned their fate. Cases featured here were heard at the city's crown court and magistrates' court, with the highest sentence handed down of eight years.
The first involved Kay Sabyn screaming and climbing over outdoor furniture outside The Cross Keys, Byard Lane. She attacked two child protection workers who made comments about her drinking outside the Nottingham bar as her partner's grandchild slept in a pushchair.
Sabyn, 33, of St Mary's Gate, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to two assault by beating charges on both victims when she appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard on Thursday (September 8). Read the full story here
And obsessed stalker Edward Vines, 52, received a total of eight years in jail over his attempts to breach a restraining order. Vines has had a three-decade fixation with ex-BBC Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis.

He wrote eight letters addressed to Ms Maitlis and her mother, expressing his "unrequited" love for her, and tried to send them from HMP Nottingham between May 2020 and December 2021. He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court. Read the full story here
In another case, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard how undercover police caught a pervert online after the officers pretended to be three young girls. Self-employed Robert Fletcher thought he was conversing with the girls, all under the age of 16 - but they were undercover police.
Fletcher, who is of no fixed address and whose date of birth is December 2, 1996, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, engaging in sexual communications with a child by sending sexualised messages and images last year, and having indecent images. He will be sentenced on October 13. Read the full story here
Talented cricketer Hasnain Nasir 23, of Grimston Road, Bobbers Mill, was sentenced this week over his involvement in the supply of 'laughing gas' to students in Nottingham. Nasir was supplying nitrous oxide in boxes of 24, Nottingham Crown Court had heard.
Judge Steven Coupland ordered Nasir pay a fine of £2,500. Read the full story here
Driver Craig King, 40, of Norwich Gardens, Bulwell, was jailed for two years and six months after he was found guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a trial in March.
King was also disqualified from driving for six years and three months when he was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court this week over the collision at Bingham roadabout. Read the full story here
Finally, a gang of Lego thieves were banned from every B&M store in England and Wales after stealing more than £4,000-worth of the toy bricks. Conlon McDonagh, Tom McDonagh, and Patrick Ward, all aged 22, raided B&M stores in Nottinghamshire over a two-day spree.
All three crooks were arrested and later charged with three counts of theft. They were each sentenced to 18 weeks, suspended for 12 months, and banned from all B&M stores in England and Wales for a year. Read the full story here
