Criminal sentenced to life imprisonment goes missing on day release...the public are being told 'do not approach him'

A Bolton convict who was sentenced to life imprisonment has gone missing following day release.

Alan Murphy failed to return to HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire on Friday, March 6.

The 58-year-old was sentenced to life in prison in April 2008 for possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Murphy, who is from Bolton and still has family in the area, is white, 5ft 6ins tall and of large build.

He has very short brown hair and brown eyes.

If you have seen Murphy or know of his whereabouts, police are asking the public not to approach him.

Instead contact officers immediately on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 20*128841.

You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
