'Criminal' Leeds United blasted ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Leeds United have been blasted for their “criminal” waste of chances, ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Nottingham Forest.

The two promotion-chasing sides go head to head in a mouthwatering clash at the City Ground this weekend, with just four points separating them in the table.

Both teams go into the fixture on the back of a defeat, as the Reds’ seven-match unbeaten run in the league came to an end with a 2-1 loss at Birmingham City.

Meanwhile, Leeds have won only once in five Championship outings and were beaten 1-0 at home by struggling Wigan Athletic last time out - leaving West Bromwich Albion to knock them off top spot.

Former Whites forward Noel Whelan pointed the finger of blame at poor finishing against the Latics, as the hosts failed to capitalise on 19 efforts at goal.

Ex-Forest youngster Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison came in for particular criticism from Whelan.

“You look at the strikers, at the chances that were missed,” he told Football Insider. “That is a massive part.

“Games like that, where teams come with a very organised, difficult set-up, when you get an opportunity it is imperative to put one in the back of the net.

“We have been going on and on and on about the number of chances we create and the goals that we miss.

“Again, that has come back to bite us.

“Patrick Bamford is not the only person that missed chances. The best one landed to Jack Harrison.

“When you look at the chances that were missed, it is criminal.”
