PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch on Monday arrested a criminal on police records, who was on the run after threatening at gunpoint a shop owner in Talegaon Dabhade and a woman near Dehu Road and for attempting to extort money from them on January 10.

The suspect Deva Jamadar (24) of Kivale had fled after two separate cases were registered against him with the Dehu Road police and the Talegaon Dabhade police. After a tip-off, assistant inspector Harish Mane and his team took Jamadar and his accomplice Samson Xavier (29) into custody in Solapur.

On January 10, Jamadar had met a trader in Gahunje and demanded money from him. When the trader refused, Jamadar threatened to shoot him with his country-made pistol. On the same day, he also threatened a woman from Mamurdi near Dehu Road and had demanded Rs20,000 from her at gunpoint. Mane said, after the incidents Jamadar had fled from Dehu Road to avoid police action.
