Criminal Assets Bureau seize cars worth over €2million during raids in Tipperary and Clare

The Criminal Assets Bureau has seized 80 cars worth over €2million after carrying out raids in Tipperary and Clare.

Officers also managed to nab €21,000 in cash and over €200,000 in accounts linked to an organised crime group.

The searches were carried out as part of a cyber-fraud and money laundering investigation in the UK, with CAB being joined by Police Officers from the Economic Crime Bureau attached to West Midlands Police.

The investigation is focused on assets of an international crime organisation, who are suspected of money laundering the proceeds of fraud through a car outlet in Tipperary.

Raids were carried out at two residential properties and one business premises in Clare, along with two residential properties and one business in Tipperary.

The search of the business in Tipperary, a car outlet, is ongoing.

Chief Bureau Officer, Detective Chief Superintendent Michael Gubbins said: "Today’s search operation is an example of the ongoing cooperation between the Criminal Assets Bureau, An Garda Síochána and UK Police Forces in the investigation of International Organised Criminal Groups. Our activities are in furtherance of the CAB mission ‘to deny and deprive’."

The operation involved CAB, the Emergency Response Unit, the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit, the Garda National Immigration Bureau, the Garda Technical Bureau and were assisted by the Revenue Customs Dog Unit.
