Crime scene investigation unit remains at scene of County Durham 'stabbing'

Police remain at the scene of a major incident in County Durham.

A cordon is in place in Esh Winning following the incident, believed to be a stabbing, on Saturday afternoon.

Crime scene investigation teams can be seen carrying out searches and enquiries around Newhouse Road on Sunday morning.

Durham Constabulary are yet to confirm the nature of the incident but residents have claimed it was a stabbing.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended the scene on Saturday.

A GNAAS spokesperson confirmed that there had been an "incident", with the helicopter called out at 4.46pm.

"We were on the scene within 20 minutes," they added.

Forensic teams also arrived at the scene on Sunday and were seen carrying evidence bags.

Durham Constabulary has been contacted for comment on Sunday morning.
