
Police have established a crime scene in the Fern Bay area after the discovery of human remains.
At about 1pm on Wednesday, officers from to Port Stephens Hunter Police District were called to the intersection of Popplewell and Taylor roads following reports that human remains had been found in nearby bushland.
At this stage, police are not treating it as suspicious.
Warrant offender arrested following investigation
Police have arrested a 32-year-old alleged warrant offender following an ongoing investigation.
On November 15, the Newcastle City Police District requested information from the public that could help them locate him.
At about 7pm Wednesday, police allegedly found the man attempting to hide in a Wallsend toilet.
The Newcastle City Domestic Violence Arrest Team and Police Dog Unit arrested him without incident.

He was taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with the outstanding warrant along with nine fresh offences including five counts of breach apprehended violence order, intentionally choke a person, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage.
He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.
