Crime author Ian Rankin enjoys birthday pint at Edinburgh pub during lockdown

Scots crime author Ian Rankin has spent his birthday enjoying a pint at an Edinburgh pub despite lockdown.

Of course, as all bars and pubs remain closed during the coronavirus pandemic, this meant the Rebus author couldn't actually purchase a tipple so had to bring along his own instead.

He headed along to the Oxford Bar on Young Street, Edinburgh to enjoy a celebratory pint outside his favourite haunt.

But many were quick to ask how Ian was enjoying a drink given the circumstances.

One said: "What happens if everyone does the same ..not a necessary journey...can't you famous people follow the rules FFS ... Shame on you."

While another added: "Please don't give the others an idea. It's wild you managed to do that, bit nae show it off."

But Ian was quick to set the record straight. He responded: "For those saying: I thought pubs were in lockdown? They are. I took my own can and a glass, drank my drink, then walked home."
