CRIK:Windies open T20 series with win after ODI dismay

Rovman Powell has hit a six in the final over to clinch a seven-wicket win for West Indies over Sri Lanka in the first of three Twenty20 internationals.

West Indies made a match of it on Thursday (Friday AEST) in Jamaica with their late, slow run-rate chasing 9-147, despite scoring 66 runs in the first six overs.

Needing 20 runs from 20 balls, it was reduced to needing a run a ball from nine deliveries before Powell clinched the victory for the home side with four balls remaining.

Captain and opener Shai Hope led the Caribbean team with an unbeaten 65 in the total of 3-149.

After the tourists won the toss and chose to bat, Kamindu Mendis top-scored with 51 runs with captain and opener Kusal Mendis adding 36.
