Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, is seeking a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Gujarat’s Jamnagar seat, from where the Congress is likely to field Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel.
Rivaba was recently named the president of the women’s wing of the Karni Sena in Gujarat.
Now, with the support of the Kshatriya community, she has joined the BJP and is set to make her political debut.
The Jamnagar seat is currently represented by BJP’s Poonam Madam. Madam defeated Congress veteran Vikram Madam, also her uncle, in 2014.
Gujarat is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state.
The BJP had won all the 26 seats in Gujarat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on the back of a Modi wave that helped the party attain majority at the Centre.
