Cricket World Cup semi-final tickets: ICC appeal to fans over resales

World Cup organisers are urging fans to return unwanted semi-final tickets through official channels, rather than resale platforms.

Fans bought tickets for the semi-finals not knowing which teams would be playing in which match. The clashes were decided after the final group matches on Saturday, with India facing New Zealand at Old Trafford tomorrow and Eoin Morgan’s England up against Australia at Edgbaston on Thursday.

The deadline for returning tickets for tomorrow’s semi was noon today, but fans with tickets for the Edgbaston match are able to return them until midday on Wednesday. Fans can return unwanted tickets for Sunday’s final at Lord’s by midday the day before the game.

The International Cricket Council are desperate for fans to do this rather than selling them over the odds on websites. There have already been 65,000 tickets resold through the Cricket World Cup website and tickets for Thursday’s game were on sale there this morning.

Organisers are confident that there will not be swathes of empty seats at England’s semi-final, despite many tickets being snapped up by India fans originally.

England’s Barmy Army fans’ group were today meeting the ICC in a bid to combat the issue of unofficial resale sites and to secure tickets for Thursday’s game for their members.
